Kinja'd!!!3 Kinja'd!!! 12

I was drinking with a friend in a neighboring town, about 10 miles away. We (3 of us) had drank 24 beers, I believe they were Bud Light, a half gallon of Jose Cuervo. & they told me I drove to the store and got more beer (I don’t remember that part). I don’t remember anything between the Tequila and the tree. On our way home, I was told that I was driving down Route # or next to Route # in the gravel, at around 30 MPH (speed limit was 55). When my friend mentioned that my driving was sub-par, I took a right on the next road. A couple miles later I slammed into a tree, I remember everything from here on. Adrenaline is amazing. My friend and I (both hammered) ran into the woods. I remember taking off my white shirt and laying behind a log for 30 minutes, as the police spotlight swept the area. All in all I ended up with a $150 fine and that was it. They couldn’t prove I was drunk, & I wasn’t going to tell them.

It’s been over 15 years since this happened and I don’t drink & drive anymore.

Don’t drink & drive! It never leads to stories about how smart you once were.

I’ve also lost close friends who were driving drunk. It never leads to anything good

I like cars a lot more than alcohol, so I don’t drink.

$150 + whatever the car cost. Pretty expensive partying.

I do not know anyone who has been killed by a drunk driver (or driving drunk) however I do know someone who was killed by a distracted driver. Don’t drink and drive or text and drive. They are both really dumb. (not directed at you but at everyone)

This topic always touches a nerve in our family. We lost a large chunk of one branch to a drunk driver. My mom’s cousin and her husband were taking their kids and their nieces & nephews on a short outing. They were all piled into a Suburban. Every seat was filled and a couple of kids were in the back behind the rear seat. While stopped at an intersection, they were rear-ended by a drunk driver in an F-250. Those who weren’t killed in the accident were killed by the subsequent fire. My mom’s cousin and one of the kids were the only survivors. Her cousin suffered severe burns while trying to get the kids out of the burning Suburban.

The drunk driver walked away from the crash.

Damn... terribly sad. Too many people just don’t consider the consequences of their actions.

I hope the driver was put in prison for many years, not that that’s any consolation.

I know he went to prison, but I think he was released a few years ago. In my opinion, it wasn’t long enough.

My insurance was almost $400 a month for many years. Stupid decisions as a teenager.

Well, I’m pretty sure the same sort of thing happened to me once or twice in my dumb past, not that I actually remember any of it very distinctly, the main difference being that somehow I managed to miss the tree. After a couple of times when I had no idea how I had managed to get home, and I staggered outside to inspect my car for possible crash damage, I kind of tightened up.
